A brief history of Mary (Grey) Reynolds

Mary J Grey was born in 1765 in Georgia. Mary's name may be Mary Jane. Her surname may be spelled with an "a" instead of with an "e" and be Mary Jane Gray.

On 1 Dec 1790 Mary married Samuel Reynolds in Elbert County, Georgia.

Samuel Reynolds was born in 1765 in Spartanburg, South Carolina to unknown parents. He appears to have remained in that area throughout his childhood and early adolescence, joining the military in March 1780. Seven years after the Revolutionary War, he moved to Georgia.

Mary and Samuel's eldest two sons, Jacob and James, were born in Georgia. After 13 years living in Georgia, Samuel decided the family should move, and he and Mary and the children relocated to Franklin County, Tennessee. Their younger son Berry was born in Tennessee. [Researcher Note: There were likely other children born to the Reynolds family, with suggestions of John T Reynolds (1809-1884), Alexander Reynolds (1797), and Mart Reynolds (1797).]

At 75 years of age, on November 30, 1832, Samuel was afforded a Revolutionary War Pension.

[Researcher Note: In the Revolutionary War pages there are 74 pages of documentation of Samuel Reynolds' service in the Revolutionary War and his and his wife's application for a pension... and the acquisition of that pension.]

On 17 Oct 1845 in Coffee County, Tennessee, Samuel died. Mary (Gray) Reynolds passed away 29 Jan 1860 in Franklin County. It is unknown where they are interred.
