A brief history of William Herschel Johnson

William Herschel Johnson was born 28 March 1885 as the eldest son of Sidney L. Johnson and Clodia Margaret Wyatt in Smith County, Tennessee. He was known by his middle name "Herschel" to family and friends.

The family story is that "Herschel" was at the river with a friend on 28 June 1903. The friends got into trouble in the swift currents of the river and was drowning. Herschel tried to save him, but both young men drowned.

Herschel was buried in the Wyatt Cemetery, located at Hwy 53 JCT Hwy 70N in Chestnut Mound, Smith County, Tennessee.
