A brief history of Clyde C Johnson

Clyde C Johnson was born to Clodia Margaret Wyatt and Sidney L. Johnson in 16 Feb 1890 in Chestnut Mound, Smith County, Tennessee. He was the third son out of nine children.

Clyde is cited in the 1900 U.S. census in Civil District 8, Smith County, Tennessee with his parents and siblings. In the 1910 census, Clyde and his older brother Charles had gone west. They were working as gold miners in Maiden, Fergus, Montana -- likely trying to make their fortunes.

Clyde registered for the draft on 23 May 1917 while living in Great Falls, Cascade County, Montana, where he was working as a locomotive fireman for the Great Northern Railway.

In the 1920 census Clyde had moved home with Mom and Dad and was living in Lafayette, Macon County, Tennessee. He was employed as a saleman in a grocery store [perhaps in the store that his father Sidney was managing].

In the 1930 census Clyde was living by himself and continued working as a retail merchant in a grocery store.

Clyde remained a bachelor, never marrying and having no children. He died in 1949 in Tennessee and is buried in the Roark Cemetery in Lafayette, Macon County, Tennessee.
