Jacob Reynolds was born in 1792 in Georgia to Mary Gray and Samuel Reynolds. He had at least two younger brothers: James and Berry.

According to researcher Gary Watkins: "Jacob was a veteran of the War of 1812 and received a medical discharge for a musket ball he took through both thighs in the battle of Horse Shoe Bend in Mississippi."

Jacob married Lydia who was born in 1811 in North Carolina. They had one known child: Mary G Reynolds (1836- ).

In the 1830 and 1840 censuses Jacob is listed as living in Franklin County, Tennessee. In the 1850 census, he is living in District 14 in Franklin, Tennessee, and in the 1860 census in District 7 in Franklin, Tennessee.

James died 8 Mar 1862 in Coffee County, Tennessee. It is unknown when and where Lydia died.
