James B Reynolds was born on the 14th of October 1793 in Georgia to Mary Gray and Samuel Reynolds. He had an older brother Jacob and two younger brothers, Berry and John T.

James obtained a marriage license on August 16, 1816, in Rutherford County, Tennessee and marriage was solemnized between James and Jane M. Cawthorn on the 22nd of August.

James and Jane’s children included: Martha M (1821), James Jonathan Milledge (1821–1857), John C (1822), Absalom Green (1823–1895), William P (1825), Reuben W (1827), Edward G B (1830) and Jacob Conner B (1833)

In the 1820 census James and Jane were living in Franklin County, Tennessee, but by the 1830 census, they had moved to Lincoln County, Tennessee, where they likely remained for the rest of their lives. The last census they were both listed in was 1850 and they were located in Subdivision 2 of Lincoln County, Tennessee. In the 1860 census, Jane is listed with their Grandson Gibson In District 1 of Lincoln County.

James died sometime after the 1850 census, perhaps in 1854. [Researcher note: Unconfirmed] Jane died sometime after the 1860 census. It is almost certain that they both died in Lincoln, Tennessee.

QUESTIONS:

Did James fight in the War of 1812? Was he the James Reynolds who wrote the Journal of an American Prisoner– who was taken prisoner at Fort Malden? Journal

The 1850 census shows James 9 years younger than he should be; however, since the rest of the family is the correct names and ages, it is supposed to be an error. I do not know where I came up with the death date of 1854; however, he is not on the 1860 census with his wife Jane and Grandson Gibson.
